TERRITORY POLICE have seized methamphetamine, cannabis and more than 160 litres of alcohol and arrested three people in an operation targeting the secondary supply and sale of liquor in the Katherine region.

An operation conducted by the Katherine Divisional Support Team, Northern Substance Abuse Intelligence Desk and the Dog Operations Unit on the Stuart Highway north of Katherine saw drivers subjected to breath and drug testing and vehicles searched last Thursday and Friday.

Police seized 87.5g of methamphetamine, 116g of cannabis and 164L of liquor during the operation.

They also arrested and issued notices to a number of people.

Two women were arrested and charged with supply and possession of a commercial quantity of a schedule 1 dangerous drug, and have been remanded in custody to appear in court on November 23.

Another person was arrested for having an outstanding warrant as well as on fresh charges of driving with drugs in their bloodstream, driving without a license and possessing a thing to administer a dangerous drug.

A road train driver who tested positive for methamphetamine and a driver who recorded a 0.118 BrAC reading were issued with notices to appear.

Police also issued eight drug infringement notices for possession of cannabis in a public place and 10 traffic infringement notices, including two for driving with drugs in blood.

Superintendent Daniel Shean said police would continue to target drug and alcohol related harm in the Katherine community.

“Drugs and alcohol continue to cause harm in our community; specifically domestic violence, assaults and social disorder,” he said.

“Katherine police are committed to preventing drug and alcohol-related harm in our community.

“Operations such as this, commensurate with other positive prevention and enforcement activities, will continue to occur in Katherine.

“Those that are involved in the unlawful sale and supply of alcohol and drugs can expect to get caught and dealt with through the courts.”
