Detectives probe Litchfield Court unit where woman died

Family from neighbouring houses have spoken out front of the residence where a 36-year-old woman was found dead on Saturday.

A crime scene was still in place and uniformed officers and detectives remained at the unit of a tragic death during the weekend in Coconut Grove.

Patrol vehicles were parked at the front and rear of the Litchfield Court unit and a detective was also on site as family members from neighbouring homes tried to comprehend the tragedy.

One family member who spoke with the NT News said the woman had come to Darwin from her Maningrida home last week to mourn the death of another woman who had died in a motor vehicle accident.

He said the woman, 36, was undertaking NorForce training and was expecting to return to her Arnhem Land community next week.

He said the woman died in an upstairs flat next door to where a large number of people had gathered on Friday and Saturday morning.

Police arrested a 43-year-old man following the woman’s death. In a statement police said they received reports of an unresponsive woman at a residence in Coconut Grove at about 12.30pm on Saturday.

Police and St John Ambulance attended, and the woman was declared dead at the scene.

The 43-year-old man, who presented himself to them at the residence and was arrested, remains in custody. No charges had been laid at the time of publication.

Police said the two parties are believed to be known to one another.

A number of tributes have been posted to social media to the deceased.
