A popular Darwin cafe was allegedly broken into by a group of booze bandits overnight on Sunday.

Northern Watch Commander Alex Noonan confirmed police were investigating reports of an unlawful entry at Ray’s Cafe on Smith St.

Mr Noonan said at 11.30pm a member of the public reported seeing a group of people fleeing the cafe with alcohol.

Police tracked the three people to Bicentennial Park, where they were allegedly drinking the stolen booze.

Mr Noonan said three people were arrested and were expected to be charged on Monday morning.

NT Police are investigating reports of an unlawful entry at Ray’s Cafe on Smith St, Darwin at 11.30pm Sunday, December 18.

Ray’s Cafe manager Bree Molloy said the group appeared to have specifically targeted their alcohol, breaking in and clearing their spirit stocks.

“They’ve smashed in the door and stolen the brown spirits,” Ms Molloy said.

“They know what they want.

“It’s the same as last time.”

Ray’s Cafe only received a liquor licence earlier this year.

Ms Molloy said the cafe had been broken into five times this year, with the last incident just two months ago.

She said the break-ins carried a significant business expense and took an emotional toll on workers.

“It’s pretty scary for us,” Ms Molloy said between serving coffees to morning customers.

“We’re here at 6am, it’s still dark and the door is smashed in.”

Mr Noonan said investigations were ongoing, and appealed for anyone with information to contact NT Police on 131 444.
