A 15-year-old boy has been charged over the alleged sexual assault of a child in Woodroffe, Palmerston on Thursday.

UPDATE: A 15-YEAR-old boy has been charged over the alleged sexual assault of a child in Woodroffe, Palmerston on Thursday.

The teenager was remanded in custody to appear in court on Friday.

He was charged with three counts of sexual intercouse without consent and one count of unlawful entry aggravated.

The girl’s mother raised the alarm after her daughter woke her at 3am Thursday to say a man had allegedly been in her bedroom and had assaulted her.

The NT Police thanked the public for their concern and help.

EARLIER: Police have arrested a man in relation to the assault of a young girl in her Woodroffe bedroom in the early hours of Thursday morning.

An NT Police spokesman said he was apprehended at an address in Palmerston and is currently being interviewed by police.

Detective Superintendent Mark Malorgorski thanked the public for their assistance, and said police expect to lay charges later on Thursday.

PREVIOUSLY: A man who allegedly assaulted a girl in her own bedroom in the early hours of this morning is on the run in Palmerston.

NT Police report that shortly after 3am the young girl woke her mother to say a man had been in her room and had assaulted her.

The intruder fled the Woodroffe home and the child’s mother called police.

Detective Acting Superintendent Mark Malogorski said officers were searching for the man.

“The intruder remains outstanding at this time and we are urging anyone with information, who may have seen or heard unusual activity in the Woodroffe area in the early hours of this morning to contact police immediately on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000,” he said.
