CCTV captured Dennis Naroldol allegedly murdering 51yo woman outside Darwin’s DoubleTree Hilton

Security footage allegedly captured the murder of a 51-year-old mother and beloved artist, moments before the bleeding woman collapsed in front of the Federal Indigenous Affairs Minister.

Investigators are searching for the daughter of a Territory artist who bled out in a glitzy Darwin hotel, metres from the Federal Indigenous Affairs Minister.

The 51-year-old woman, who the NT News has chosen not to name, was allegedly murdered by her partner, Dennis Naroldol on April 14, 2023.

In a brief hearing on Thursday, Supreme Court Justice Meredith Day Huntingford heard that Mr Naroldol’s anticipated three-week jury trial could be significantly reduced.

It has been alleged Naroldol stabbed his partner while the couple were sleeping rough at the Esplanade, in Darwin.

Following the alleged stabbing, the bleeding woman and her family burst into the DoubleTree Hilton pleading for help.

By coincidence the then-Federal Indigenous Australian Minister Linda Burney was in the lobby, and comforted the dying woman’s family as her staffers tried to save her.

The woman passed away shortly after being taken to Royal Darwin Hospital.

Her family have previously described the beloved woman as a talented artist and basket weaver from the award-winning Injalak Arts centre, in Gunbalanya.

“She’s a happy woman, she’s a good lady, she loves every person,” loved ones said.

On Thursday prosecutor Tarama Grealy told Justice Huntingford that the alleged fatal assault was “largely captured on CCTV”.

Ms Grealy said the trial would likely centre on the question of whether Mr Naroldol intended to murder his partner.

She said police were seeking to speak to the alleged victim’s daughter, however they were struggling to find her.

“The information is pretty strong that she is in and around Darwin, long grassing, we just haven’t been able to catch up with her yet,” Ms Grealy said.

Justice Huntingford said she had anticipated a three week trial for the murder case, however Ms Grealy said it was possible they could avoid a jury altogether.

“There’s good prospects of it not needing a trial” she said.

Mr Naroldol’s hearing was adjourned to January 29 for another pre-trial hearing, and he remains remanded in custody.
