Darwin Hilton Hotel alleged murderer Dennis Naroldol’s hearing delayed by different DV trial

Indigenous Australians Minister Linda Burney comforted the family of a talented NT artist and beloved mother as she bled out in a Darwin’s hotel. See why her alleged murderer’s hearing was delayed.

An ongoing trial for an alleged domestic violence killing has delayed proceedings for another Territory man accused of stabbing his partner outside a glitzy Darwin hotel, a court has heard.

Alleged murderer Dennis Malambula Naroldol was expected to appear before Darwin Local Court on Wednesday, but his hearing was pushed back after both the prosecutor and defence lawyers were locked in an ongoing murder trial which has no connection to Naroldol’s proceedings.

Naroldol, 56, was arrested in April after a bleeding 51-year-old woman burst into the Double Tree Hilton pleading for help after allegedly being stabbed.

By coincidence Federal Indigenous Australian Minister Linda Burney was at the hotel, and comforted the dying woman’s family while staff desperately tried to save her.

The 51-year-old passed away shortly after being raced to Royal Darwin Hospital on April 14.

Her family told The Australian that the 51-year-old was a talented artist and basket weaver from the award-winning Injalak Arts centre, in Gunbalanya.

“She’s a happy woman, she’s a good lady, she loves every person,” her eldest daughter Rayna Garlnearr said.

Five-months after her alleged stabbing, her partner Naroldol was expected to be committed to the Supreme Court during a preliminary examination on the papers.

However Judge Ben O’Loughlin was told the 56-year-old’s hearing had to be delayed, as both prosecutor Tamara Grealy and defence lawyer Erin Morton were caught up in a long-running domestic violence murder trial in the Supreme Court.

In the separate and unrelated proceedings, John Mayatjun, 52, has pleaded not guilty to murdering his 49-year-old partner Kumanjaya Dhamarrandji at a Coconut Grove unit in August 2021.

Naroldol was adjourned to September 27, when it is understood Naroldol will also make an application for bail.
