Two people who allegedly beat a man into unconsciousness and left his body in a carpark have been charged with murder.

Two men who allegedly beat a 39-year-old into unconsciousness and left his bloodied body in a Darwin carpark have been charged with murder.

Prosecutors have laid murder charges against Brendan Marrtjiku, 33, and 18-year-old Jerad Gurruwiwi who were allegedly involved in a fatal brawl outside the Rapid Creek Business Village nine months ago.

Both Marrtjiku and Gurruwiwi were originally charged with recklessly and unlawfully endangering serious harm, aggravated assault, but on Wednesday Darwin Local Court heard that they now faced allegations of committing a violent act causing death and murder.

The men were allegedly part of a violent fatal assault of a 39-year-old man in March, with his body left in the suburban parking lot.

CCTV footage allegedly showed a young man walking, before a group of four people running towards the area.

Police have alleged up to 20 people witnessed the attack.

Gurruwiwi also faced unrelated charges of stealing, robbery and assaulting a worker.

Both matters were adjourned to February 7, for a preliminary examination mention.
