UPDATE: A Northern Territory cop facing child abuse and grooming allegations has been granted bail.
The male police officer, who cannot be named for legal reasons, arrived at Alice Springs Local Court on Monday for a first hearing.
The man in his 30s has been charged with three counts of possess child abuse material obtained or accessed using a carriage service, three counts of using a carriage service to transmit child abuse material, two counts of using a carriage service to solicit child abuse material and one count of using a carriage service to groom another person.
The police officer faces the prospect of facing the higher courts, with his case due to be referred to a preliminary examination mention.
The police officer was granted bail and is due to return to Alice Springs Local Court on January 13.
EARLIER: NORTHERN Territory police officer has been arrested for allegedly possessing child abuse material in Alice Springs.
The Northern Territory Police, Fire and Emergency Services said the man in his 30s had been remanded in custody over multiple allegations of possessing child abuse material and grooming.
The male officer faces three counts of possess child abuse material obtained or accessed using a carriage service, three counts of using a carriage service to transmit child abuse material, two counts of using a carriage service to solicit child abuse material and one count of using a carriage service to groom another person.
The male officer is due to appear at Alice Springs Local Court on November 15.
PFES said the matter was under investigation by the Professional Standards Command.
