A remote Territory cop who allegedly raped his ex girlfriend and then shared around revenge porn is expected to plead guilty in the Supreme Court.

On Monday Chief Justice Michael Grant heard that the Northern Territory police officer, whose identity has been suppressed, was prepared to make a plea to the sexual assault charges.

The then 30-year-old police officer was arrested in September 2023, after allegedly raping a woman in her own home in a remote part of the Territory.

It is alleged the woman was scared of the officer when he ‘invited himself’ into her home and offered to massage her.

During the massage it is alleged the police officer raped the woman.

The court previously heard they were in an “on again, off again” relationship, which had ended badly.

The remote cop was charged with distributing an intimate image, three counts of aggravated assault, sexual intercourse and gross indecency without consent.

During the mention, Justice Grant was told that an anticipated trial could be vacated, as the officer was prepared to make a plea.

Defence barrister Mary Chalmers said the facts had been largely agreed to, with only some “minor” changes around the wording still up for negotiation.

“Counsel are now confident it’s resolved,” Ms Chalmers said.

His plea was adjourned to March 27, the day after his trial was meant to begin.

The officer’s bail was extended until his next hearing.
