A 49-year-old Redcliffe mother has been jailed after telling her teenage daughter she was going to kill her grandmother to get her back.
The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared via video link in Redcliffe Magistrates Court on April 22 and pleaded guilty to four offences including three breach of domestic violence orders and a wilful damage charge.
Court documents revealed the woman on April 20, 2020, called her 13-year-old daughter, who she was not supposed to contact, three times and left messages.
The messages said: “I will kill your grandmother, you understand, to get to you. I will do anything to get to you. I’ve been to jail twice for you. I will kill for you.”
A second breach related to a three-month period from April to June 2020, where the woman sent 61 emails to one of the people named on the order.
On February 25, 2021, the woman attended her daughter’s grandmother’s house. Court documents stated the defendant banged on the front screen door of the 78-year-old woman’s home, yelling “you have ruined my life”.
She also yelled “I will kill you” while making a stabbing action with her hand.
Before leaving the property the woman destroyed two plants, throwing them on the front lawn.
Police found her a short time later and arrested her - the defendant has been in custody since then, serving 57 days.
Police prosecutor David Pollock described the defendant’s behaviour as “ongoing torment”.
Magistrate Burn said the defendant had 40 criminal convictions, 28 of which were for breaches of domestic violence.
“I’ve never seen more DV in one person’s history and I’ve been doing this for 25 years,” Magistrate Burn said.
In sentencing Magistrate Burn made mention of the recent number of domestic violence incidents that had tragic endings in recent months.
“Three people who had their lives threatened have had those threats followed through in the past 60 days,” Magistrate Burn said.
“(The defendant) has made threats to kill and she is driving that home in the most potent way, repeatedly.”
Magistrate Burn said that with the sheer number of breaches it was “obvious you have some sort of narcissistic trait, because you breach it time and time again”.
“The terror you have put these people through speaks for itself,” Magistrate Burn said.
The court heard that at the time of offending the defendant was on three suspended sentences, two for like offending.
Magistrate Burn sentenced the defendant to 10 months for each of the breach of domestic violence order offences and three months for the wilful damage to be served concurrently.
He activated all three suspended sentences adding an extra eight months to the sentence.
Magistrate Burn set a parole release date for August 26, 2021, taking into account the time the woman has already spent in jail.
