SOUTHERN Storm secured their place in the T20 Strike League final with strong bowling boosting the side to a 12-run win over Desert Blaze.

Storm went into bat first with captain Josh Kann (18) and Dean Fry (18) getting off to starts but falling to strong bowling from the Blaze.

That left the lion share of the work to middle order bats Ash Chandrasinghe (35) and Kyle Scrimegour (33) who formed a formidable partnership in the middle both remaining unbeaten.

That left Blaze with a difficult 5-137 to overcome.

The Desert’s opening pair of Hayden Kerr (40) and Dylan Brasher (45) laid some strong foundations for the side with the duo looking as if they would chase the bowling in no time.

But deft bowling from Storm’s Kann, Blade Baxter and Reiley Mark put paid to the opening pair with the remainder of the Blaze crumbling rather cheaply to finish 6-125 in the final over.

“I’m ecstatic to get the win. We fought back hard with the bat and ball. It was awesome work from the boys really,” Scrimegour said.

“They looked like they could get it but we knew that if we could get some quick wickets then we would be right back into it and Josh, Blade and the spinners did great and kept fighting.

“For me I just swung the bat around and hoped for the best and that came off luckily. I had Ash with me the whole time, he kept encouraging me which was great”

“Getting knowledge from all these players that have come up has been awesome for us all, everyone has played their role and that’s made this a great series,” he said.

“I haven’t been in a final in ages and it will be a great opportunity to get to do it at home in Darwin under lights.”

Big showings from Southern Storm openers secure win against City Cyclones in game two of the T20 Strike League

It was the Storm that won this match-up on Monday and they will be hoping to use that momentum to pick up another win.

Josh Kann and Josh Hartill were the obvious standouts for Storm hitting 57 and 56 runs respectively as their side climbed to a 6 wicket win.

It was the first loss at DXC Arena for Blaze and they will be hoping to reclaim their position as the dominant force of the 2021 Strike League.

And they more than have the firepower to get the job done with Hayden Kerr and Dylan Brasher both in good form as an opening partnership while Chris Tremain is always a bowling danger man.
