THE scary thing for opposing Darwin Premier League Netball teams is Tracy Village is still finding its best combinations.

That was coach Sharon Freeman’s summary after the Falcons prevailed 42-37 over Pints in Round 4 action, Village now having a perfect 4-0 record after the first month of competition.

“It was a very hard game, and it was very tight in defence at both ends,” Falcons coach Sharon Freeman told the NT News.

Waratahs recruit and former Queensland Firebirds star Peta Stephens: ‘We’re finding form’ ahead of Darwin Netball Premier League clash v Banks Bulldogs

“There were patches where we played really well and other parts of the game where our judgment let us down.

“They were just basic errors where we could have taken better options.

“There’s still a lot of work to do and our starting seven is still up in the air.

“We’ve got really good depth in our Premier League Reserve and Division 1 teams, and I’ve got no hesitation bringing those girls up.”

Part of that process for Freeman has been giving Lauren Pluker a go at goal attack.

“Lauren has been really good there for us. And after her first year of footy (with Waratah) she killed it,” the Village mentor said.

“Our expectations are to play in the finals.

“We need to keep tidying up our game and look after the ball.”

Freeman was impressed with the fight Pints put up, particularly without superstar Jasmyn Hewett, who was best on court in her team’s win over Nightcliff in last year’s grand final.

“Jasmyn (broken hand) is still out for Pints, but Liz Paice was very good filling that gap in defence,” Freeman said.

“And Barb Ilett in defence for them always gives us tough opposition.

“Georgia Luhrs was really good in defence for us, and Mikaela (Sawyer) and Jordan (Anderson) shot well.

“Jasmyn told me she should be back in a week or two.

“She played through the footy grand final (which PINT Queenants won against Darwin Buffettes to claim the 2020-21 Women’s Premier League flag) with a broken hand.

“When she comes back she’ll make a big difference for them.”

In other Round 4 results, Nightcliff beat Waratahs 46-32 and Banks defeated Hoggies 50-30.

Pints v Nightcliff, Falcons v Banks and Hoggies v Waratahs are the Round 5 games on Thursday night.
