WITH the 2020 edition of the NRL NT Women’s Premiership drawing to a close the NT News has picked out five of the best or most influential players of the season.

Their have been many thrilling performers from across the competition particularly from the Darwin Sistaz who have found their way into the grand final in a season where they remain undefeated.

Let us know who your standout was this year.

5. BIANCA STOKES (DARWIN SISTAZ)

THE Sistaz have dominated the competition this year and a lot of that is owed to the forward pairing of the two Biancas – Stokes and Scrymgour. Sistaz have found plenty of firepower from the former Shark, who has performed well in a side that had talent but lacked the experience to take it to that next level. But that level has been achieved in 2020 with Stokes playing a pivotal role. She has been a constant threat both with ball in hand and on defence, putting her body on the line to keep her side’s premiership winning hopes alive.

4. JOSEPHINE WONG (NIGHTCLIFF DRAGONS)

THE star fullback has been an important figure in the Dragons backline once again in 2020. In a side that has struggled with injuries Nightcliff has looked to its remaining stalwarts and Wong has been among them, bringing a steady running threat in the wide channels. She hasn’t scored as many tries this season but has applied plenty of pressure on her opposition as the last line of defence for the Dragons.

3. BIANCA SCRYMGOUR (DARWIN SISTAZ)

THE 2019 premiership winning captain for Sharks has brought her winning leadership to the Sistaz and has been an instant hit in the side. Her work up front with fellow forward Bianca Stokes has been pivotal in bringing last year’s wooden spooners into the grand final. Her work on the defence and around the ruck has allowed the Sistaz backs to take full advantage of their opposition. But most important will be the leadership she has brought to the outfit which has helped the side keep its cool all season.

2. RUTI FAATOAFE (PALMERSTON RAIDERS)

A STANDOUT for the Raiders in recent seasons and that hasn’t changed in 2020. She has been a pivotal cog in a Palmerston side that has reached the preliminary final. Coming on to smash a hole in the opposition defence has been a speciality of hers this season and has that contribution has often led to a score. Her side has sometimes struggled with her off the field, but when she’s on the Raiders have surged deep into opposition territory.

IT has been another dominant year for the young, versatile back who was one of many to make the switch from Sharks to Sistaz in 2020. She can play anywhere in the Sistaz backline, but seems to have settled well in the centres. It’s from there that she as dominated this season with her blistering pace seeing her notch 18 tries as of the semi-final and she will be itching to add to that tally come grand final day. Her tally of five tries against Palmerston in Round 6 was her most successful day on the scoring front. And while her offensive efforts have stood out this season she has also played a vital part in a dominant Sistaz defence.
