Team NT bring home 16 medals from 2024 National Titles

It was a successful trip down to the Gold Coast for Team NT at this year’s National Championships, winning a total of 16 medals. Meet the 12 champions here.

It was a successful National Championships for Judo NT with a swath of players excelling on the county’s biggest stage.

Held at Carrara, Gold Coast last week, more than 600 athletes from around the nation battled it out across the three day event.

The smallest team in the competition, team NT were no pushovers, with 12 players walking away with individual medals.

BEAU CELOTTI

One of the youngest members of the team, Celotti showed “great courage and determination” at his maiden championships. Fighting out of Marrara Judo Club the junior won two of his three fights and won a silver medal in the under-11s.

MATTHEW MACHIN & CRAIG BROWN

Both representing the Top End Judo Academy and with a healthy rivalry, Machin and Brownwere rewarded for their efforts behind the scenes. Machin bagged two gold medals, winning the Veterans M2 (100kg) and Veteran M2 Kyu finals while Brown brought home silver in the Veterans M2 (100kg).

ALANNAH JOYCE

The newly crowned NT Sportsperson of the Year was again among the nations’ best taking out a bronze in the Junior Women (78kg) and a silver medal in the Senior Women (78kg).

KYLE MAINEY

Representing the Darwin Judo Club, the Top End player fought hard, clinching a silver medal in the Kyu grades.

ELEFTERIOS SPYROPOULOS

Another Darwin Judo Club representative, Spyropoulos fought his way to a well-deserved silver medal in the Veteran Kyu grades.

CHERESE FREELAND

Picking up two medals, Marrara Judo Club’s Freeland took out bronze in the Junior Women (57kg) and silver in the Kyu grades.

DAVID HIRST

Part of the Marrara Judo Club, Hirst came home from the championships triumphant after winning gold in the Veterans M3 Kyu grades.

NIKOLAS THORN LANGELAAR

Regarded as a “leader” who “inspires younger athletes”, Langelaar picked up bronze in Kyu grades (81kg).

MITCHELL LODER

Regarded as the “life of team NT” and deeply passionate about Judo, Loder came away from the titles with a double, winning gold in the Veterans M3 (100kg) and silver in the Veteran Kyu grades.

LUIS MADDALOZZO

Taking home a silver medal in the Cadets (81kg), Maddalozzo fought hard in the final, putting his best abilities on show.

KAAN HUCENT

Fighting out of The Judo Studio and a true representation of how far “hard work and determination” can take you, Hucent won a silver medal in Cadets.
