FIERCE racing will be on show when the NT Open Water series kicks off this Saturday, with Olympians billed to take part later in the four event series.

The community event held on the Darwin Waterfront is open to anyone looking to get involved over the four meets held on June 19, July 10, August 14 and August 28.

And joining in will be the Queensland Open water state team alongside four yet to be named Olympic open water swimmers.

Swimming NT pathways manager Thomas Noblett was excited for the meet which gave swimmers the chance to mix it up with athletes from others sports such as triathletes and surf members.

“We’re always excited for this event. It’s one of the only ones that gets our swimmers out of the pool and into the open water environment,” said Swimming NT pathways manager Thomas Noblett.

“It’s probably the best chance we get for some cross sport collaboration with triathlon and surf members which is always great.

“We have the best open water venue in the country with the Darwin Waterfront and the event just grows year on year.

“Last year we had our biggest number of competitors ever which came as a surprise considering COVID and we just hope we can continue that upward trend this year.”

Plenty of prize money is on offer donated by Scrivens Exploration with the August 28 NT Open Water Championships offering $600 to the winners of both the men’s and women’s races.
