THE Sharks women scored themselves a significant upset beating reigning premiers Sistaz 24-16 in Round 8 of the NRL NT women’s premiership.

Sistaz took the front almost immediately with Danielle Ponter breaking through the Sharks defence with a strong run to score the opening try.

Though the joy have that score was soon hampered by the loss of captain Bianca Scrymgour to injury.

Sharks were quick to pounce on that loss breaking into Sistaz territory on the back of some rapid passes from Crystal Browne which eventually saw Olivia Lynch over the line.

Talia Corrie made plenty of metres for Sistaz to set up Kiera Kurnoth for her first of two first half tries, including one on the siren of half time.

But for all their work they couldn’t shake Sharks who continued to bring the intensity with Lauren Linton breaking through and popping a pass to give Sylvia Compton a clear line to her first of two tries.

And that intensity continued for Sharks in the second half with backs including Ayesha Kay and Chloe Callaghan showing their pace and scoring to take the lead.

It was a lead they didn’t let go of in spite of a late injury to game breaker Linton with Jayde De La Couer among many stalwart defenders.

Sharks captain Deanna Peackham was ecstatic with her side’s win stating how important it was for her club which had struggled for numbers early in the year.

“The girls are ecstatic. We were nervous early on coming up against the premier winning side but everyone got around each other and that was awesome,” Peackham said.

“We’ve been practicing on our attack and that’s just come naturally now that we have a lot of ball players in the side.

“When we have ball in our hands we’re able to play whatever’s in front of us. The girls are switched on and play really well.
