A THRILLING back and forth between Northern Sharks and Litchfield Bears resulted in an 18-all draw in Round 6 of the NRL NT Women’s Premiership.

Litchfield dominated the opening quarter finding ways through across the field putting themselves in a dominant position.

Kiyannah Toy continued her impressive season with a try with teammates Eve Genders, Melody Wehipehana and Caitlynn Ivanetz all also scoring throughout the game.

But Sharks soon struck back announcing themselves as a side that despite being low on numbers were firmly in the contest.

Melissa Miles and Deanna Pecham were amongst the scorers but it was a brace from Crystal Browne that really put that saw Sharks take the lead late in the contest.

It was only a late try from Litchfield that sealed the draw and saw both sides finish with nothing between them.

Sharks coach Richard Hill credited his side for their efforts pointing out that though they may have been down on numbers they held their own.

“I was proud of the effort of all the women considering we only had 14 players so the way they held on and toughed out the draw was a good effort,” Hill said.

“We were good in both attack and defence and really toughed it out all game. It was all about sticking with Litchfield who are a quality side.

“While we are still struggling to get a team on the park each week we continue to show that we are a strong side and the ladies always give it their all.”

Bears captain Shari Togo was similarly pleased in the effort her side showed throughout the contest crediting some early momentum for the result.

“We had some good momentum in the first 15 minutes but then they scored and forced us back to thinking about our game plan,” Togo said.

“Sharks may have less players than us but they played like they had a full side and really took the challenge to us.

“Our momentum was really important. Our back runs going followed by the work our forwards did to get us over the line got us plenty of momentum.”
