Damo Crook was ahead after winning in Darwin but his sights were also on races across the country, facing a hint of disappointment when one of his bets finished third after leading.
“My horse hit the front and I thought here we go but near the end it faded and finished third which was a bit disappointing,” Crook said.
“But I had a big win in Darwin before that, where my horse saw it through the whole way, so I’ve still come out ahead today.
“It’s a great day. Plenty of fun and not quite as many punters as Darwin Cup Day, where I have another horse running.”
The connections of Palmerston Sprint-winner Mayameen also enjoyed a great day at the races, taking the top honours in the premier event.
James Herraman and his daughters, Alice and Clara, were among the owners screaming in triumph as their runner hit the front on the finish line.
And the party continued for the group celebrating a historic win as they all gathered atop the podium to be presented their trophies.
Many involved in Saturday’s excitement will be back again on Monday to once again get in on the action and will their horses home.
