PALMERSTON Power captain Tom Godwin believes his side can match Ansett’s intensity to score an upset in Round 19 of the Darwin Basketball Championship.

Power succumbed to a 78-62 loss to Essington last week and have now turned their focus to a strong finish to their season rather than a finals run.

Godwin (21 points) and Jai Weetra (10 points) stood out in that exchange and they will be looking for more big showings from their squad in the final two competition rounds.

“It was a hard game as they were needing the win to make finals so they came out hard,” Godwin told the NT News.

“And though we’re not in the finals race now we still want to finish the season strong so it was a good contest even if we were a bit undermanned through the game.

“Our main focus in recent weeks has just been trusting our systems and playing four quarter games to set ourselves up for next season while using our bench and enjoying the game.”

Ansett will be another tough task for the depleted Power side with the third-ranked team coming off a big 105-50 win over Lightning.

Freddy Webb, Joel De Barros and Fred Williams stood out in the encounter and will be looking to do so again as they push for a top two finish.

However, Palmerston are on the hunt for an upset and the return of their game changer Steven Sing could help them meet that end.

“Ansett have had the better of us so far but they’re a quality side and we will look to be competitive in hopes of getting a win,” Godwin said.

“They’re a high intensity, younger side that like to get up in your face and to be competitive we have to match that intensity and use our size against them.

“It will just come down to playing to our strengths while minimising theirs.”

Meanwhile, top-placed Eagles will look to continue their 15-game winning run against bottom side Uni Rebels.

While on the female side of the draw Essington Cannons are aiming for back-to-back wins when they take on Razzle.
