The opening ceremony entertainment details were top secret and the closing ceremony details for the Paris Olympics are also being kept under wraps.

Rumours suggest that Tom Cruise will be part of the handover to LA 2028, but nothing has yet been confirmed.

Strong speculation has emerged about Beyonce’s involvement, along with Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift who has a break before she performs again at Wembley Stadium in London.

Queen Bey Beyonce has made a big Olympics play by lending voice to a new commercial released by NBC honouring Simone Biles.

She’s also posted herself wearing the USA team outfit and some of the more revealing clothing items.

The ceremony’s executive director Thierry Reboul declined to comment on Cruise’s reported stunts and the rumoured presence of Swift or Beyonce but he did tell Variety that the segment prepared by the LA organising committee will last 10-15 minutes and will include some live elements.

Meanwhile in a quiet industrial area north of Paris, Paris Confidential has been given an exclusive fashion preview of the closing ceremony extravaganza titled ‘Records’.

The Stade de France will be transformed into one giant concert hall with more than 100 performers, acrobats, dancers and circus artists in what will be a sensory overload spanning the 2800-metre stage.

Thomas Jolly, the artistic director who perched Celine Dion halfway up the Eiffel Tower, tapped Swiss fashion designer Kevin Germanier to join his team to create some 120 costumes, including that of a main character.

“His name is the golden voyager, the golden traveller and it’s inspired by a golden record that we send up into space,” he said, explaining that if an alien was to find the floating disc, it contains a summary of the human race.

The costumes are sci-fi inspired to match the cryptic concept.

Germanier, who is famous for upcycling fabrics in his designs, used tarnished gold beading as well as off-cuts and deadstock from luxury LVMH fashion brands.

“All those tiny scapes and defects or paint chipping here, this [was] in our favour because he has travelled the galaxy, so he’s obviously not going to be all shiny,” Germanier said.

He even incorporated physical VHS tape from childhood films like Pokemon into the costuming — a move he described as “very funny and humorous”.

“It’s very inspired by sci-fi and video games,” added Germanier. “Thomas plays a lot of video games so it was like we were talking the same language.”

While there are rumours swirling of Tom Cruise skydiving into the stadium, Lady Gaga reappearing and an appearance from Beyonce, Germanier was keeping quiet.

“I stay Swiss and neutral,” he laughed. “It’s the best thing about being Swiss in these moments.”
