ROUND 18: SuperCoach teams analysis
BARGAINS: Trent Copeland’s Cheapie Bible
Round 18
Panthers vs. Sharks - Friday 6.00pm at Panthers Stadium
Jarome Luai 5/8 (Panthers) - The majority of experienced SuperCoaches will be looking firmly at the likes of Gallen, Fifita, Ramien and even Val Holmes after his Origin heroics, but the man who scored 133 points last weekend with two tries, Jarome Luai is the perfect choice in the absence of both James Maloney and Nathan Cleary. Not only does Luai keep his place in the side, he will also retain the goal kicking duties!
Other options: Jesse Ramien, Andrew Fifita, Val Holmes, Viliame Kikau
Knights vs. Eels - Friday 7.55pm at McDonald Jones Stadium
Connor Watson 5/8 | FLB (Knights) - Playing at home this season, the Knights have averaged over 20 points per contest, and the likes of Kalyn Ponga, Lachlan Fitzgibbon and Herman Ese’ese have exceeded all SuperCoach expectations by way of points scored. This time out, the Knights don’t have Ponga but they get the return of Mitchell Pearce, allowing Connor Watson to slide back to doing what he does best - attack the line. The 108 points he scored in round 16 were a great example of what Watson is capable of, so jump on in a matchup against the lowly Eels.
Other options: Marata Niukore, Clint Gutherson, Herman Ese’ese, Nick Meaney
Bulldogs vs. Rabbitohs - Saturday 3pm at ANZ Stadium
Cody Walker 5/8 (Rabbitohs) - You could pick any of the outside backs from the Rabbitohs and be a chance in this one, as the table topping team with eight wins in a row are likely to put on a fair chunk of points. Walker is my pick though with some amazing form and just generally looking likely - 3-round average of 80.3PPG. Rhyse Martin is pretty stiff here coming off a 153!
Other options: Rhyse Martin, Alex Johnston, Damian Cook, Angus Crichton
Sea Eagles vs. Storm - Saturday 5.30pm at Lottoland
Cameron Smith HOK (Storm) - Nothing tricky here, the GOAT has scores of 123, 106, 74, 72 and 104 in his last five matches for an average of 95.8PPG. This week he is fresh from no Origin commitments playing against one of the leakiest defenses in the NRL with their three best players (Turbo x2 & DCE) backing up from Origin. Get on!
Other options: Cameron Munster, Curtis Scott, Jake Trbojevic, Tom Trbojevic
Raiders vs. Cowboys - Saturday 7.35pm at GIO Stadium
Jordan Rapana CTW (Raiders) - He’s back! One of the very few SuperCoach studs in the CTW in recent years returns from injury, and due to most people having forgotten that he was playing he should be a very unique option with well documented upside! Particularly at home in freezing cold Canberra at night against the Cowboys.
Other options: Jarrod Croker, Nick Cotric, Josh Papalii, Jason Taumalolo
Broncos vs. Warriors - Sunday 2.00pm at Suncorp Stadium
Jamayne Isaako CTW (Broncos) - One of the cheapies of the year, Isaako has become a frontline keeper option with regular 80+ point upside. The Warriors haven’t traditionally travelled well to Brisbane, and if the Broncos can translate their recent form into another win at home, Isaako has a great chance to flourish.
Other options: Shaun Johnson, Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, Darius Boyd, Anthony Milford
Dragons vs. Tigers - Sunday 4.10pm at Jubilee Oval
Gareth Widdop 5/8 (Dragons) - When it comes to upside and getting the highest scorer in any given match as is the goal of ‘Perfect 8’ it’s pretty hard to go past a proven scorer like Widdop with the goal kicking duties in tow. The Tigers are no longer the defensive menace that they were to start the season, the only worry is how bad the Dragons were last time out without the Origin stars, conceding 52 points to the Storm.
Other options: Esan Marsters, Robbie Farah, Euan Aitken, Tim Lafai
Titans vs. Roosters - Sunday 6.30pm at Cbus Super Stadium
Blake Ferguson CTW (Roosters) - The Titans were comprehensively beaten 34-0 last weekend against the Broncos, with right winger, Jamayne Isaako having a field day. So, who is on the right wing for the Roosters this week you ask? Fergo! The man who just happens to be the 9 th highest overall point scorer in the entirety of SuperCoach.
Other options: James Tedesco, Latrell Mitchell, Ash Taylor, Ryan James
Good luck! Will this be the week where someone takes home a huge wad of cash?
Let’s hope so.
