ALICE Springs rider Kenny Armstead has lodged back-to-back wins, securing the territory title for both Natural Terrain and Motocross NT Titles at Illparpa complex over the weekend.

Armstead carried his Pro Open premier class dominance from Saturday’s Natural Terrain performance into Sunday, defeating Darwin contenders Ayden Bridgeford (2nd) and Hayden Vandeventer (3rd).

The top Pro Open combatants also battled in the highly contested Pro Lites class, which saw a role reversal, Vandeventer claimed first place to come home with the title. Darwin’s Tristan Owen cemented second place and Armstead rounded off the podium in third.

Armstead was relieved to have finally secured his first title after several podium finishes in years gone by.

“It’s my maiden title, it feels good. All the other years you try hard and get a little bit closer but this year everything fell into place,” he told the NT News.

“It was definitely bar-to-bar racing, there were some fast guys. It was all about getting the start and trying to get away early and maintain that. Aiden (Bridgeford) was able to stay close, it went down to the last race to get the motocross title.”

Aways competitive and not satisfied with the Pro Open titles, Armstead was on the cusp of two titles with a Pro Lites class victory. A crash that cost him the dual title was disappointing.

“I definitely wanted them both, it was a little disheartening to not grab the Lites title. I was in a good position to do so, had a good start in the last race and lost the front end going for the lead and that was it,” he said.

“I think I battled back to fourth place but it was too little too late.”

After a King of the Gulf campaign in Port Pirie earlier in the year finishing just off the podium against some of the country’s best, Armstead now has his sights set on the Alice Springs Natural Terrain series and the Sporties 12 Hour Enduro.
