More than 1000 players will get to test out the newly refurbished facilities at Palmerston following the completion of a $450,000 upgrade earlier this week.

Participants from both Palmerston Netball Association and Palmerston Tennis Association now have full access to the 13 upgraded courts, which will be both easy on the body and eyes.

“The new playing surface will give 1000 participants in community sport around Palmerston a fantastic new facility to enjoy,” Drysdale MLA Eva Lawler said.

By installing the new Rebound Ace Synpave system, the courts are now made of four separate layers above the original surface that will provide slip resistance, a non-glare surface and a cool top system.

With a 20 to 30 per cent higher solar reflective rating than the old courts, the new cool top system will help the courts retain less heat, and will reduce the average temperatures across the surfaces.

“Sport at a grassroots level plays an important role in bringing our communities together as well as improving our health and mental well being,” Sport Minister Kate Worden said.

“The upgrades to the Palmerston netball and tennis courts give so many participants of all ages a better and more comfortable facility.

“By investing in infrastructure and offering $6 million under the Sports Voucher Scheme we are encouraging all Territorians to stay active and participate in sport.”
