A new look women’s Darwin and Districts Cricket Competition (DDCC) is on the cards for season 2025 with an emphasis on player growth and participation.

Cricket NT has called for expressions of interest from interstate players to take part in a revised format that will see a fully competitive home-and-away T20 competition.

Head of clubs and competitions for Cricket NT Karl Mayne said the rationale for the Female Interstate Player Program was more than just about club recruitment.

“It’s about building a sustainable, competitive and inspiring environment for women and girls to play cricket in the NT,” Mayne said.

“A key driver of this evolution is NT Cricket’s commitment to growing female participation, providing clear pathways for player progression, and developing local talent.”

Mayne said the players who did end up in the competition would contribute as much off the field as they did on.

There has already been a lot of interest from a number of high-profile bodies across the country.

“We’ve had interest from state-based high-performance managers, premier cricket coaches as well as developing cricket nations looking for playing opportunities such as Vanuatu,” he said.

“This program is designed to attract players who bring leadership, mentoring, and high-performance experience to support the development of local players and clubs.

“On the field the players will contribute to a higher standard of play and will challenge and accelerate the growth of NT’s emerging talent by exposing them to experienced players. “While off the field they will play an active role in mentorship, coaching pathways, and junior development programs ensuring that local players receive hands-on guidance and support.”
