A PAIR of rising Crocs have been named as the NTFL’s brightest up and comers, with Brodie Lake and Grace Mulvahil named the NT News Rising Stars.

Just as Darwin Buffaloes did last year with Gold Coast recruit Malcolm Rosas and AFLW hopeful Mattea Breed, the pair completed the rising star double for Southern Districts, showing future prospects are bright for the club’s men’s and women’s premier league teams, who finished third and as premiers in season 2019/2020.

For Mulvahil, it completed “the best weekend in (her) life” which saw her also become a premiership player and Brenda Williams medallist for best on ground in the women’s grand final.

“I was pretty surprised, I didn’t think I’d be up there for it but other people believed in me,” she said.

“It’s been a big weekend but it’s been amazing, probably the best weekend in my life to be honest.”

Mulvahil said she’d enjoyed her time with her teammates on the field and reserved a special mention for her captain.

“Lateesha Jeffrey has definitely helped me step up my game so much and I really appreciate her as a mentor all season,” she said.

“It’s amazing playing with them, I love them all.”

For Lake, it was due reward for an impressive few seasons playing as an underage senior, after he also received a nomination in 2018/2019.

“It feels great, I received a nomination last year so it’s good to win it this year,” he said.

He gave special mention to two mentors at Fred’s Pass in Travis Carroll and Keegan Dingo.

“Keegan Dingo helped me out at the club, helped me out at the club so I’d like to thank him,” he said.

“It feels really good (to win) … I’ve really enjoyed playing with all the boys at Southern Districts.”

Carroll’s footy smarts have seen him shoot up the ranks at Districts which he hopes will see him progress further, like his predecessor Rosas, to find his name on an AFL list.

“I’m just hoping to make the AFL (but) from here I need to make a big step to get there.”

“Probably just my footy smarts.”
