LOOKING through Rosas’s tinted glasses, the future is bright for the NT News Rising StarMalcolm ‘Mally’ Rosas.
The rangy wingman played 12 senior games this year, with his rising star nomination coming in a Round 17 loss against the Tiwi Bombers.
But young Rosas said his game had developed over the past two seasons since his debut in 2017, crediting his improvement to eventual Nichols medallist Phillip Wills.
“When he was at the Buffs he really looked after me, he still does even at the Michael Long Centre with Thunder, he teaches me a lot,” Rosas said.
“He helped me out a lot and has been there for me.”
Rosas’s experience in the AIS squad has also given him a first-hand experience at two AFL clubs.
“I went to the Gold Coast and Brisbane academies for a week each,” he said.
“It was a good experience, it was intense, it was hard work, it was good to see what the insights are like in AFL clubs and what players have to do to be at their best.”
“Izak (Rankine) was really good and at Brisbane probably Mitch (Robinson), Cedric Cox, they were really good around the club and training sessions.”
Darwin Buffette Mattea Breed said she was impressed with her close friend’s development and saw big things in his future.

“I’m really proud of Mally, he’s put in so much hard work and he’s going to go so far,” she said. “He reads the play really well and one day, even at AFL level he’ll stand out because he’s so good, he’s got quick feet, really good on the ground.”
Breed made it two from two for Darwin, picking up the Women’s Premier League Rising Star award.
“Just playing up in the Premier League has helped me improve individually,” she said. “It’s good moving up and playing at higher level.”
