The Tiwi Bombers came to life in the second half to run over the top of reigning premiers St Mary’s in a real game of two halves.
Last time these sides met St Mary’s pulled back a 30-point deficit in a brilliant come-from-behind. this time it was the island boys who flipped the script on their rivals.
Tiwi surged back with a nine-goal second half with all the run and carry to win 10.7 (67) to 8.12 (60) and condemn Saints to their second loss in as many weeks.

Skills weren’t great from either side in the opening half making for a chaotic back and forth, but little to show for it on the scoreboard.
Saints had plenty of the run, but missing key players such as their skipper Dylan Landt for a second week in a row showed in miscues and turnovers.
However, unlike their match against Wanderers they weren’t lacking the presence of Connor West as well, and he took charge in the middle giving those around him plenty to work with.
They were able to find Jackson Calder quite a bit in that second term, but the usually reliable tall forward was unusually wayward aiming at the sticks, though they still edged ahead.
For Tiwi it was a question of who would kick the goals with Malachi Walley not on the field and Sam Darley’s suspension meaning the side were down a leader.
The game quality lifted leaps and bounds in the second half as Tiwi made some formation switches and were able to take advantage of the Green Machine’s inaccuracies.
The Bombers sent Marlion Pickett to the backline to mark Calder, and in doing so prevented the full forward’s impact while becoming another key rebounder.
That move as well as the dominance of Jack Monigetti in the ruck battle and Matthew Parker’s work in the midfield led to a Bombers resurgence and the whole game blew open as a result.
Thaddeus Puautjimi nailed a typically tremendous Tiwi-style snap while the likes of Blake Puruntatameri, Edward Turner and William Munkara also found their way through.
And when the chance came to Anthony Munkara he struck through to send his side ahead deep into the third quarter and they accelerated from there.
Saints were never out of it though and with West and Kieren Parnell getting stuck into the midfield battle they had their own chances to go forward.
Mitch Musgrove was a constant offering himself and Jack Landt goaled late to keep the match within a score, but a couple of late free kicks sealed it in Tiwi’s favour.
“We’re really pumped, we wanted to finish out the year pretty strong,” Declase said.
“We knew they would come out pretty hot and heavy because they’re coming off a big win, but we wanted to get the jump on them early and we did that.
“That’s our recent game plan, come out strong and start really well, if we can do that we give ourselves a really strong chance of winning the game.
“We played a little into their hands in the third quarter with scrappy footy and going away from our plan, but we slowed it down in the last and played the way we like to play.”

PREVIEW
St Mary’s and Tiwi both suffered tough defeats last round they will want to put in their rear view mirror as soon as possible, and this is the match to do it.
The NT News and KommunityTV will stream every moment of the Round 11 clash between the two sides from 2pm on Saturday.
St Mary’s will again be without the services of their leader Dylan Landt and after a flatter display against Wanderers they will be looking for someone to step up in his place.
Adding salt to the wound, the missing dual Nichols medallist was the chief insitgator of their incredible come-from-behind win over the Bombers last time the side’s met in Round 6.
Landt’s brother, full forward Jack, stepped up in his absence against the Muk Muks, though more will be called on from the mids and small forwards to get one over a Tiwi side hunting a big scalp.
It was just over a month ago when the Tiwi side led by as much as 30 points against the Saints, but blew the lead in a dramatic final quarter to lose by a point.
The Bombers were inaccurate on that occasion scoring 9.19, but with just one win since against eighth placed Palmerston, they need something to settle the ship.
Sam Darley has been among the Bombers best of the season, though he may be out with suspension putting a huge spotlight on the rest of their list.
Marlion Pickett and the likes of Kurt Dunn and Thaddeus Puautjimi will be looked to for strong games, while the possible return of Braedon McLean and Ashton Hams will add plenty of starch to the Bombers defence.
Watch the full replay at the end of the game.
