NTFL 2023-24: Watch PINT v St Mary’s women’s major semifinal live stream

PINT are the first team into the women’s decider as the return of Jasmyn Hewett helped inspire a big win over the team to have caused them the most problems this season. Watch the REPLAY.

PINT’s season of grandeur rolls on to the Women’s Premier League grand final after they secured a dominant victory over a St Mary’s outfit that had given them plenty of problems earlier in the season.

These two have clearly been the best sides all season, with the result the last time they met - a thrilling tie - setting up a potentially tasty contest.

But with their eyes on locking down Danielle Ponter and having Jasmyn Hewett back in their number, the Queenants grabbed a 10.5 (65) to 4.8 (32) victory.

The Queenants will be seeking back-to-back titles in two weeks’ time against the winner of the St Marys versus Nightcliff preliminary final.

It was the reigning Premier that settled best and livewire forward Carly Rammos found space and goaled after just two minutes of play.

Soon after, Hillary Grubb was awarded a warranted free kick at the top of the goal square and kicked truly and when Steph Lawrence also found space and snapped on the right boot, PINT had assumed control.

Saints finally got on the board at the 15-minute mark when Nicky Anderson scouted the ball and ran into an open goal.

Saints continued to struggle finding system especially with Danielle Ponter unable to break the hard tag by Queenant defender Kate Atkins, and when Grubb and Rammos both scored their second for the game early in the second quarter, PINT had maintained its authority.

However, Ponter broke the tag and surged forward kicking with precision to Grace Senior who goaled for her team, but the Queens went to the long break with a 23-point lead.

Saints opened the third with Ponter in an on-ball role, but PINT countered with Zoe McWhinney following close on her heels. Despite the move of the champ closer to the action, it was PINT that opened the scoring through Lawrence, but Ponter slammed forward to Senior who squared the ledger for Saints.

Jasmyn Hewett had worked her way into the game and controlled the ruck and general aerial contests and despite some instances of individual brilliance by Billie Byers, it was too little too late, and the Queenants pretty much strolled to a 33-point victory.

With the early responsibility of having to mind Ponter, PINT defender Kate Atkins played down her role and was adamant that it was a team effort that got them home.

“I don’t know how I managed to get Danielle early in the game, but I guess when she came forward it was on my flank but it’s easy to play when you have only one role and are supported by others down back,” Atkins said.

“We have another week off but if we had a choice that would be our preference and despite not playing much recently, I expect it will be pretty much business as usual on the training track because the coach is not about too much change.

“Our mentality will not alter, and we would say that going into the final will be with a degree of determination rather than confidence.”

PREVIEW

It was a thrilling tie the last time PINT and St Mary’s women met, but there has to be a winner this time around - and the reward is a grand final berth.

The NT News and KommunityTV will be at TIO Stadium to stream every minute of this massive finals fixture from 2.15pm on Saturday.

These two have been the sides to beat all season and in their most recent meeting, they gave a taste of what finals would be about, with neither giving an inch as they played out a 27-27 draw.

But on that occasion, one of the best and fairest favourites, PINT captain Jasmyn Hewett, was missing. Her return this weekend will surely make a huge difference.

Reni Hicks and Carly Remmos have been other standouts for the Queenants all year, while Steph Lawrence has been outstanding in front of goal.

Saints are also an incredibly talented outfit, with All Australian Danielle Ponter, Billie Byers and Jo Miller all among the league’s best.

Kaitlyn Armstrong is easily among the NT’s best goalscorers of the past two years, and alongside Emma Stark can cause plenty of damage.

But they need to get in good positions first, and the still unbeaten PINT will not make that an easy task.

A full replay will be posted here at the end of the game.

The NT News and AFL Northern Territory have come together in a partnership to live stream both the men’s and women’s Premier League games for this TIO NTFL season.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS THIS SEASON

Round 5 – PINT won 6.5 (41) to 3.2 (20)

Both sides came into this encounter undefeated after the opening four rounds, but as they remained for the rest of the season, it was PINT who came on top.

Steph Lawrence had another busy day in front of goals, kicking four on her major rivals and confirming her early favouritism for the leading goalscorer award.

Paula Pavic and Billie Byers were busy and created chances for their side, but were unable to get the better of the league’s dominant outfit.

Round 15 – Draw 4.3 (27) to 4.3 (27)

Saints came in with a point to prove and came as close as any side to beating the Greenants.

It was also a night defined by free kicks, with the majority of the eight goals kicked coming directly after a 50m.

Saints were leading for much of the day building off momentum created by Danielle Ponter and Jo Miller, and were in front with less than five minutes to go.

However, the work of Reni Hicks through the middle and Carly Remmos, who was arguably best on ground in the second half, brought the Queenants back in touch.

From there, a 50m was given to Remmos as tensions flared, and it was enough to see the scores tied at the final siren.
