Replay: St Mary's v PINT - NTFL Women's Premier League Round 15

The women’s premier league top two, PINT and St Mary’s, couldn’t be separated as they played out a tense, thrilling draw in a match that very well could be the grand final preview.

PINT came into the match undefeated, while Saints, who were celebrating 150 games for Jemma Iacono, wanted to make a statement.

In a match filled with feeling and free kicks, the sides could not be split - 4.3 (27) apiece.

St Mary’s were the better side out of midfield early on, eager to make an impression against the only side above them on the table.

Biller Byers, Jordan Mifsud and Jo Miller were impressive coming out of the midfield, making sure to match the Queenants at every contest.

And when AFLW All Australian Danielle Ponter received the mark in the forward 50, and was marched forward because of an indiscretion, the side had their first goal.

Ponter and Mifsud were also impressive in the middle feeding off Paula Pavic, and with their early ascendency they were able to keep the pressure up.

PINT, who were without inspirational ruck Jasmyn Hewett, kept their heads and were able to grind their way into the matchup.

Dual sport star Carly Remmos and Reni Hicks matched the Saints mids, and as they got more possession, the Queenants inched ahead.

The league leading goalscorer, Steph Lawrence, was a powerhouse in the forward line, while Casey Morris also found herself in the goals in a busy second quarter for PINT.

But Saints didn’t let up as club leaders Jemma Iacono and Emily Forshaw made the big tackles, and Caitlin Sargent kicked a goal to bring the margin back to one point at halftime.

The slippery conditions didn’t help much come the second half and scoring became harder for both sides.

But Remmos and Hicks, both fresh off a rep footy contest on Wednesday, kept the possessions coming for PINT.

Riley Huppatz, who was particularly busy in the third quarter, found Lawrence in the forward line, who blazed around Ciaralii Parnell and put her side clear of Saints.

PINT let themselves down again at the top of the final quarter as they gave up a free kick and a 50m to gift Mifsud with the leveller.

Paula Pavic was also marched 50m to kick an easy goal and put Saints ahead.

Tensions continued to rise and as the minutes ticked by PINT were the side on the attack with Amy Chittick offering herself at every ball.

But in the chaos of the final few moments, it was Saints who stepped out of line gifting Carly Remmos a free kick to tie the scores.

PREVIEW

PINT and St Mary’s face-off in a top of the table clash at TIO Stadium on Saturday which could very well be a rehearsal for the biggest game of the season in March.

And the NT News and KommunityTV will be there to stream the entire spectacle from 7pm on Saturday.

Reigning premiers PINT currently sit top of the table without a loss. St Mary’s are right behind them, with their only defeat coming against the Greenants back in round 5.

PINT certainly have the talent to pull off an unbeaten season.

Jasmyn Hewett has been one of the stars of the show and she secured a best on ground showing in the representative game against Essendon earlier this week.

PINT's Amy Chittick and St Mary's Emily Forshaw race for the ball earlier in the season.

Steph Lawrence is the league’s leading goal kicker and Reni Hicks and Carly Remmos are also in strong form.

St Mary’s have their fair share of strong performers as well, with Jemma Iacono, Billie Byers and Emily Forshaw also among the representative standouts this week.

A win here would throw the race for top spot wide open and add more intrigue to the final few rounds before the finals.

And with Danielle Ponter and goalscoring ace Kaitlyn Armstrong in the mix, they have become quite a formidable side.

A full replay of the match will be posted here at the end of the game.

The NT News and AFL Northern Territory have come together in a partnership to live stream both the men’s and women’s Premier League games for this TIO NTFL season.
