St Mary’s returned to the winning list following a come from behind five-point victory over Buffettes in the semi-final played at Marrara.

Buffettes did all the early attacking however a resolute Green defence held firm but they simply couldn’t clear the centre and when they did Buff defender Elisa Niki repelled them with her usual tenacity.

That Saints dynamo Danielle Ponter went down injured and left the ground inside the first minute of play didn’t help their cause, but it took until the final minute of the quarter until the double blues dominance was rewarded following a clever Molly Althouse kick to Bianca Stokes who marked and goaled.

One minute into the second term Stokes repeated the dose and goaled after receiving a hand pass from Kylie Duggan.

Saints had their chances and a lift from Billie Byers and Emma MacNeill forced the ball forward and Kaitlyn Armstrong took a solid mark in the goal square and kicked truly for a Saints goal just before half time.

Another goal from Armstrong squared the scoreboard ledger early in the third but then the arm-wrestle was again established where a goal would be gold but no further nuggets could be dug out.

Saints finally hit the front at the halfway mark of the final term when Armstrong found herself alone in the goal square and she gathered and goaled and sent her team a week further into the finals.

Green skipper Forshaw was delighted after the game and said persistence and belief were the key ingredients in the win.

“I can’t believe it – we did it on the back of four quarters of footy,” Forshaw said.

“Losing Danielle (Ponter) so early was not good – she is a massive boost for our team and losing her was a big loss and while we were all thinking of her during the game, we couldn’t let it dominate our thoughts and hopefully she will be back next week.

“We always had the belief, but it was the last quarter which was our best where we got it all together and with persistence we got the job done.”

LIVESTREAM PREVIEW

It will be the end of the line for one team when reigning premiers Darwin Buffettes take on a strong St Mary’s side in the knock out semi-final at TIO Stadium.

And the NT News will be there to livestream every minute of the game exclusively for you from 12.15pm, Saturday.

Buffettes are the reigning premiers and a lot of their talent know a thing or two about how to win when it comes to finals.

But after faltering late against Nightcliff in the elimination final, they know they need to up the ante and be at their best for all four quarters to avoid another scare.

They also have a solid history in this fixture smashing Saints 11.6 (77) to 3.4 (22) last time out, but two of their best on that occasion, Tayla Hart-Aluni and Dom Carbone, have not played since.

Meanwhile, Saints will be ruing just their second loss in 14 games, to Waratah in the qualifying final, which saw them drop into this fixture.

The Green Machine is still a strong side, but will be hoping for some more favourable conditions to get the most out of AFLW star Danielle Ponter and goal kicking sensation Kaitlyn Armstrong.

If you are attempting to cast the livestream or replay to a television, the best result can be achieved by either using a laptop/computer or a mobile phone.

The NT News and AFL Northern Territory have come together in a partnership to livestream Men’s Premier League games for this TIO NTFL season.
