Although inaccurate, Southern Districts did enough to overcome a determined but disorganised PINT at Norbuilt Oval.
The 9.15 (69) to 5.5 (35) victory was the mechanism behind the tricolours holding top spot on the ladder with two minor rounds remaining.
PINT defence led by Henry Tregoweth, Mitchell Lowe, Tom Gaden and on occasions Ethan Smith held firm against persistent forward forays by Districts but a scoreless second term and dogged home team back half snuffed out most Greenant forward moves which lacked system.
The strong-willed Districts defence caused much of the PINT lack of forward cohesion.
Charles McAdam, Frazer Driscoll, Michael Bowden and Matthew Mazzini ruled supreme, but it was McAdam, a premiership winning player with the Crocs who produced his best game of the season.
Known more for his earlier career running across the wing, McAdam has come to terms with his new role and is relishing his time as a shut-down defender.
“I’m based in Alice Springs now and have only played six or seven games up here this year and just trying to cement a place in the side as a defender before finals,” McAdam said.
“My game is different now – back in the early days I had a bit of run in the legs and really liked to take the game on but these days I’m probably playing a bit smarter and in the back six I can play a role.
“I played in a premiership a few years ago and in that side we had an older group but this season we are younger and most of the players are in their prime and I’m thankful to be around the mark to win another flag with this club.”
After an even first term, and although only scoring one goal themselves, the Crocs set up the win in the second by holding their opponents scoreless and asserting authority through running players Luke Smith, Kaine Stevens and Jack Sexton.
The much-anticipated ruck contest between Brock Carter (PINT) and Matthew Dennis (Districts) played out evenly although Carter had assistance from Andrew Jones while Dennis spent pretty much 100 percent of time on the ball.
Districts were often wasteful in front of goal and finished with four goals, five behinds in the final quarter – but for its inaccuracy, the win would have been much greater.

LIVESTREAM PREVIEW
PINT are facing their biggest challenge of the 2022-23 NTFL season needing to win against Southern Districts in Round 16 to keep their finals hopes alive.
And the NT News will be there to livestream every minute of the game exclusively for you from 4pm, Saturday.
The Greenants have far exceeded everyone’s expectations in their first season in the Men’s Premier League achieving far more than just making up the numbers.
But winning is all that’s on their mind now as they race against time to grab the last finals berth, and with Southern Districts ahead it will be a tough ask.
Despite sitting top of the league Districts still have a bit to prove themselves after folding against Nightcliff in Round 14.
They may have then destroyed Tiwi in Round 15, but they will want similar results against sides with genuine finals ambitions, and an eager PINT more than fit that bill.
They’re still down a few key midfielders, but if the ball finds itself down Sam Dunstan’s channel as it did against Tiwi then the Crocs could be in for a good afternoon.
If you are attempting to cast the livestream or replay to a television, the best result can be achieved by either using a laptop/computer or a mobile phone.
The NT News and AFL Northern Territory have come together in a partnership to livestream Men’s Premier League games for this TIO NTFL season.
