Football NT could hand down penalties to two Division 1 clubs as early as next week as the league investigates an alleged incident involving multiple scuffles after a match in late June.

FOOTBALL NT could hand down “potential sanctions” as early as next week following an alleged post-match incident involving several women at Marrara, the league has confirmed.

Two clubs have been drawn into a league investigation after the incident following a Division 1 women’s premier league match between Port Darwin and Hellenic on June 26.

Eyewitnesses described the situation as a “big mess” with multiple scuffles breaking out after the game.

Several people told the NT News three women allegedly attacked a fourth in the carpark, tearing off her head covering and ripping her dress down to her bra.

Similar accounts have been posted to social media pages, suggesting a second person was also targeted.

On Wednesday, a league spokesman said both clubs had to provide “their version of events” by close of business.

“Interviews will be conducted later this week with potential sanctions to be handed down later next week,” the spokesman said.

“There are no other updates at this point. We’re waiting on all submissions to come in before we conduct interviews.”

NT Police are investigating the incident following the Division 1 women’s premier league game between Port Darwin and Hellenic on June 26 at Marrara.

On Tuesday, a spokesman for Football NT said it was continuing its own investigation and “all parties involved” had until Wednesday to respond and “provide their version of events”.

“We are now collating all the evidence and interviews with parties involved will be held later this week,” the spokesman said.

The spokesman previously said the situation was “disheartening” and it would complete a “thorough investigation”.

NT Police are continuing to investigate the alleged attack and no charges have been laid.

They said they were still calling on the public to come forward with any information or video of the incident.

Port Darwin declined to comment while Hellenic has been contacted for comment.
