Eyewitnesses described the situation as a “big mess” with multiple scuffles breaking out post-match.

Now sources say a game between the Hellenic and Port Darwin’s men’s Division 1 sides was called off on Sunday.

One source said the match was forfeited by Port Darwin.

However, Hellenic Football Club said the match was called off because of a lack of match officials.

Football NT has been contacted for comment.

NT Police said on Tuesday they were continuing to investigate the alleged attack last week. No charges have been laid.

They said they were still calling on the public to come forward with any information or video of the incident.

Police ‘aware’ of post-match attack

A WOMAN allegedly had her hijab stripped off her after a premier league match at Marrara Football Stadium on Sunday.

Eyewitnesses to the incident have told the NT News three women allegedly attacked a fourth in the carpark, tearing off her head covering and ripping her dress down to her bra.

Similar accounts have been posted to social media pages, suggesting a second person was also targeted.

The incident happened following a women’s premier league game between Hellenic and Port Darwin.

An eyewitness said they first heard screaming as they went to leave the stadium.

They said the altercation began after two people from opposing teams made rude hand gestures at each other, before then getting into a physical altercation.

Another fight between players happened nearby.

“It was just a big mess,” the eyewitness said.`

A spokesman for Football NT said the situation was “disheartening” and was now subject to an NT Police investigation.

He said Football NT would seek to do a “thorough investigation” into the incident.

Meanwhile, Hellenic Athletic Club club president Kosta Boubaris responded to questions by saying: “if you are referring to a matter after the game then you need to contact Football NT.”

“If you are referring to the WPL match between Hellenic AC and Port Darwin, the result was a 1-0 win to Hellenic,” Mr Boubaris said.

In response to a request for comment, a spokesman for Port Darwin declined to comment, saying the incident was a “police matter”.

“No one will be speaking to the media at this time,” the spokesman said.

In a statement, NT Police called for witnesses following the dispute and confirmed there were no serious injuries.

“There were no serious injuries and no indication that this was a racially or religiously motivated crime.
