DEADLY Cup Carnival organisers are still hopeful the event will proceed as planned this Sunday, though will be keeping a close eye on the developing lockdown situation.
The Darwin region is currently in lockdown until 1pm on Friday following an outbreak of Covid-19 meaning training scheduled for this week will be unable to proceed.
Deadly Enterprises director Shaun Tatipata said they would continue to monitor the situation throughout the week with the health of the community being their number one priority.

The inaugural Deadly Cup provided a celebration of culture through rugby league and was enjoyed by over 2000 attendees and a further 8500 via livestream.
The 2021 event was expected to be even bigger with an estimated 3000 attendees expected to descend on TRL Stadium.
“We’re hoping the Deadly Cup can go ahead bigger than before but our number one priority is to keep the community safe,” Tatipata said.
“If we can’t play this Sunday we will make sure the Cup moves to later in the year.
“Last year was amazing and the cup was something we really needed using rugby league as a vehicle for culture.
“Everyone is extremely pumped to do it again but also proud to be participating and representing their culture.”
The event will see some of the stars of the NRL NT season go head to head with Nightcliff’s Willie May coaching the Indigenous All Stars and Palmerston’s Merg Mikaelian coaching the Territory All Stars.
However, if the event does take place on Sunday it will do so without invitational sides the ADF Indigenous All Stars and the Australian Army All Stars.
Both sides had players travelling from interstate and were forced to withdraw as a result.
