“We’re a family club with four or five generations playing. We didn’t have this kind of advice when we were younger,” Adams said.

“So we want to give our young people a kick start and a push in the right direction. But it’s also about letting them know that they can talk to us at their club.

“We couldn’t have done any of this without the help of the NT Government and we can’t thank them enough for that help.”

Kim Mulholland of IvolveGen delivered the youth wellbeing camp focusing on different facets of mental health and social and emotional wellbeing, as it relates to adolescence.

Mulholland, who has worked in the field for seven years, was impressed with Brothers’ commitment to its young members.

In a camp based in Mataranka the group learned about improving resilience through emotional intelligence, understanding the flight or fight stress response and reframed the conversation from simply managing mental health, to self-determined wellbeing and growth.

“I applaud Brothers as a sporting club who capture large audiences at the grassroots and have recognised much potential to connect as a community.” Mulholland said.

“It was a powerful camp, with many young men showing bravery to talk about their internal experience and connect to each other as people outside of sport.”

“We celebrated adolescence as a sacred transition, identified personal strengths and vulnerabilities, and encouraged them to practice deep reflection.”

“Our emotional range is one of our greatest gifts as humans, and yet we aren’t informed about them in a useful way. They aren’t bad or to be shamed, we must learn to master them toward a greater quality of life”
