MOTORSPORT legend Craig Lowndes headed to the Red Centre to try out the Finke Desert Race track on Friday ahead of the big race this weekend.
Mr Lowndes was joined by Reigning Australian Rally Champion Harry Bates to do prologue laps of the track, borrowing buggies from local drivers for the occasion.
“It isn’t every day that you can come up to Alice Springs and jump behind the wheel of a Cam-Am, thanks to Greg Campbell (2019 Finke Class Winner) for throwing me the keys on what is a very busy weekend for him,” Mr Lowndes said.
“With the likes of two-time Dakar Champion Toby Price and Alice Spring local favourite David Walsh competing at Method Race Wheels Prologue Day tomorrow, hopefully we see them set a high benchmark with some strong times and put on a great show for everyone watching.”
Mr Bates said he had loved his first crack at the Finke Desert Race track.
“There is little wonder why this is known as the toughest off-road race in Australia, and I can’t wait to see who will be crowned the Kings of the Desert come Monday.”
