Jodie Foster’s weird moment during Golden Globes acceptance speech

Hollywood superstar Jodie Foster baffled Golden Globes viewers by thanking a sporting icon during her acceptance speech.

Hollywood superstar Jodie Foster bizarrely thanked an NFL great in her Golden Globes acceptance speech on Monday AEDT, which understandably baffled several viewers.

Foster won the Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture (Drama) award for her performance in The Mauritanian.

The 58-year-old delivered an acceptance speech from the couch of her home alongside wife Alexandra Hedison and their dog.

Foster thanked several people in her brief speech, including her wife, her fellow nominees, the Hollywood Foreign Press — and Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Some people theorised that Foster was returning the favour after Rodgers thanked the Hollywood icon during his NFL MVP acceptance speech last month.

But why are these two icons from different worlds exchanging shoutouts in awards ceremonies?

As it turns out, Foster is a Green Bay Packers fanatic.

Speaking on Jimmy Kimmel Live last month, Foster conceded she had never met Rodgers, but claimed: “He knows I’m his biggest fan”.

Kimmel asked in response: “If you win the Golden Globe, will you name him in your speech?”

Foster replied with a smirk: “Absolutely.”

And the Silence of the Lambs star kept her promise this week, giving the three-time NFL MVP a shoutout at the Golden Globes.

Coincidentally, Rodgers is engaged to American actress Shailene Woodley, who also starred in The Mauritanian.

After the Golden Globes awards ceremony, Foster told reporters: “I just got a very cute video from Aaron Rodgers where he says he is going to get me back. So we’ll see who wins.

“I have never met Aaron Rodgers, but it is possible that I do like to talk about how much I love the Green Bay Packers, and sometimes I can talk a little bit too much about that. So, of course, Shailene is very aware of my enthusiasm for the team.”
