Russell Westbrook caught fire against Indiana, dropping a crazy statline on Tuesday (AEDT) that stunned basketball fans.

It’s the first time in NBA history a player has racked up a triple-double featuring at least 35 points and 20 assists, proving to the naysayers Westbrook has plenty left in the tank after leaving the Houston Rockets last year.

He now has 16 triple-doubles in just 38 games for Washington — the most triple-doubles of any player in franchise history.

“It’s pretty crazy when you think about it,” he said of his hot streak.

“I always give thanks to the coaches and to the staff and to everybody in the organisation, my teammates especially, to allow me to do what I love to do.

“I put a s**t-ton of pressure on myself, win or lose, to do everything on the floor … I just feel like that’s my calling.”

Wizards coach Scott Brooks was in awe of his marquee man.

“He does things I’ve never seen in history. I’ve been in this league for 30 years … I don’t know, man. It’s mind-boggling,” Scott said.

There’s no stopping Westbrook when he’s in a mood.

American sports reporter Ben Standig tweeted: “Westbrook’s been here for 10 minutes and has the all-time franchise record for the triple-doubles. Not single-season. Forever. Unreal. That’s about what happened over the prior 50 years.”

Radio host Craig Carton called Westbrook’s statline “ridiculous” and an “absurd triple-double”, while journalist Aaron Rupar said it was “one of the greatest individual performances you will ever see”.

Aussie tennis star Thanasi Kokkinakis said what everyone was thinking, tweeting “that’s insane”.
