SuperCoach AFL 2024: Winners and losers from round 6

It was a big weekend for some SuperCoach favourites but the sub curse struck again in the last week of best 18 scoring for a while. See this week’s biggest heroes and villains.

NEW DPPs, Sam Walsh season, and Jordan Dawson bounces back! | SuperCoach AFL

Call it redemption round.

Some maligned or forgotten SuperCoach stars bounced back in a massive way in round 6.

But the sub curse struck again with several popular rookies falling victim this round.

Check out our heroes and villains for the week.

WINNERS

BAILY DALE – 175 POINTS

Dale was averaging 68 SuperCoach points – and started as the sub last week – before producing a shock masterclass against the Saints. He finished with 39 disposals at 92 per cent efficiency, 15 marks and a goal.

JORDAN DAWSON – 168 POINTS

Roughly 16,000 coaches have held Dawson through a very trying start to the season. The Crows skipper, who averaged 115 points a game last season, failed to hit three figures in the opening five rounds. But he was absolutely everywhere on Friday night, gathering 31 disposals, eight inside-50s, nine tackles and two goals.

BRODIE GRUNDY – 158 POINTS

Anyone who traded Grundy out on Sydney’s bye last week, look away now. He was at his all-Australian best against one of the toughest ruck match-ups in the competition, Jarrod Witts. Grundy had a game-high 11 tackles to with 24 disposals 29 hitouts and a goal.

HARLEY REID – 147 POINTS

Wowee. The No.1 draft pick showed a glimpse of his talents with a 108-point game against Richmond then blew the Dockers away in his first Derby. Don’t even think about trading him!

PATRICK CRIPPS – 142 POINTS

It’s been a few years since Cripps was a consistent top-level SuperCoach scorer but he can still go huge on his day. Thirty-nine disposals, seven tackles, 24 contested possessions, 13 clearances and 11 clearances in an inspirational effort from the Blues skipper.

NICK DAICOS – 133 POINTS

The Magpie superstar’s struggles were so bad he wasn’t even talked about among experts as a captain option this round. But he set things right with a vintage Nick Daicos performance (if you can have such a thing in your third season), powering Collingwood to a big win.

JOSH KELLY – 132 POINTS

Death, taxes, and Josh Kelly scoring lots of SuperCoach points against Carlton. Recent Kelly scores against the Blues include 148, 156, 131 and 205.

SAM WALSH – 130 POINTS

Will be one of the most popular trade targets for the week after scoring 166 and 130 in his first two games of the season. Get on while he’s cheap!

MATT ROBERTS – 117 POINTS

The young Swan is staking his claim as the best money-maker of the season and only seems to be getting better every week. He had already added $180,000 to his price tag before blitzing the Suns with 23 disposals at 91 per cent efficiency.

JACK MACRAE – 115 POINTS

The long-time SuperCoach favourite has struggled to even break into the Bulldogs team this year, but this was the Macrae of old – 30 disposals, seven tackles and a goal. He’s very affordable if you think he’s back.

LOSERS

LUKE RYAN – 89 POINTS

Not a terrible score for most players but Ryan has been averaging 135 points a game and was expected to go big again against the Eagles. Even the best players can have an off game.

TOM GREEN – 82 POINTS

Make that two off games. After being beaten by Jack Steele last round, Green lowered his colours to Patrick Cripps this week. He still managed 30 disposals and five tackles but nine contested possessions was a very low number for the Giants’ midfield bull, he had only one centre clearance and gave away three free kicks.

ZAC WILLIAMS – 33 POINTS

Given Williams’ injury history hearts were in mouths when he was subbed off with a reported Achilles injury. Reports suggest the damage may not be as bad as first feared. Hopefully Zac gets up for this week’s clash against Geelong.

COLBY McKERCHER – 32 POINTS

The No.2 draft pick did well to play after being crunched by Jeremy Cameron last week, but he was well off his best – along with most of his teammates. Seventeen disposals at just 41 per cent efficiency saw his value fall by another $30,900.

MATTAES PHILLIPOU – 18 POINTS

The high draft pick showed some exciting signs in his debut season last year but has a bad case of the second-year blues. He managed just four kicks and five handballs in a horror night all round for the Saints last Thursday, with just one tackle and two contested possessions.

RYLEY SANDERS – 15 POINTS

After being controversially subbed off last round, the Dogs’ top draft pick started as the sub on Thursday night and only came on in the dying stages. His scoring potential isn’t in doubt but it’s hard to score if you’re sitting on the bench. We could throw Jack Carroll (26) and Jhye Clark (11) in the same bucket.

TYLER SELLERS – 6 POINTS

Of the six players to score in single digits this round the Kangaroos rookie was the only one not to start as the sub. He didn’t come off as the sub, either, playing 58 per cent of game time for a return of two handballs against Hawthorn. He’s on the bubble this week but with a Break Even of 49 he’s not high on the shopping list.
