Jeremy Cameron could open contract negotiations with GWS as early as next week as the Coleman Medal winner braces to become the AFL’s most sought-after commodity.

Hawthorn have already been linked to the Giants’ superstar, while Essendon are also likely to go all-in on the game’s premier forward should Joe Daniher join the Sydney Swans.

After sweating on Stephen Coniglio’s signature for the entirety of this season and dealing with all the speculation that goes with it, the Giants’ would be buoyed by the fact Cameron is keen to get the ball rolling on talks as soon as the finals’ campaign comes to a close.

Particularly because Lachie Whitfield is also coming off contract, presenting another huge double-assignment for GWS officials who this year managed to lock down both Coniglio and Josh Kelly.

Cameron is 26 and at the prime of his career and admits he would have to consider any outside interest, despite his loyalty to GWS and what they’ve done for him. But at the moment the foundation star is purely focused on securing a maiden Giants premiership.

“That’s something I’ll talk to the club about as soon as we’re done and go from there. At the moment I’m just looking forward to another prelim,” Cameron told The Daily Telegraph.

“Everyone is human and you always think about those sorts of things. But the club has been awesome to me. They’ve given me opportunities to play footy.

“I wanted to play a full year and it’s been awesome, because they gave me that opportunity (to focus on footy not contracts) and I’ve played my most games this year which is exactly what I wanted.”

Essendon are giving injury-plagued forward Daniher space to consider his AFL future amid growing speculation he will seek a trade to Sydney.
