Flinders University nursing lecturer Heather Keighley receives lifetime achievement medal

A Darwin nurse, midwife, and educator with more than 40 years of experience behind her has received a prestigious medal for her dedication to helping other and sharing her wisdom.
Flinders University Darwin nursing lecturer Heather Keighley received the NT Administrator’s Medal for Lifetime Achievement at the 2024 Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards.
Dean of Rural and Remote Health Robyn Aitken said Ms Keighley was “truly a legend” in her advocacy for remote area health care and was an inspiration to many health practitioners.
Ms Keighley has worked in acute care, health development, primary health care, policy, and as chief nursing and midwifery officer across the NT.
She now focuses on student placement coordination as well as supporting student learning.
“I strongly believe that there should be more equitable and culturally secure health access for all rural and remote people across our country,” she said.
“I also enjoy student networking and interprofessional sessions and contributing to relevant research in the student placement and workforce development arena.”
Ms Keighley said she was passionate about developing well-equipped nurses for the Territory’s future.
