US bombs Iran: PM backs Iran strikes, dodges vital question

Anthony Albanese has avoided a key question over the US strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites, as he warned against full-scale war.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has reiterated Australia’s support for the US strikes on Iran’s nuclear program.

In his first public statement since the attacks, Mr Albanese said: “The world has long agreed that Iran cannot be allowed to get a nuclear weapon and we support action to prevent that — that is what this is”.

It came after Donald Trump launched a fresh verbal salvo directed at Iran’s Supreme Leader, musing over whether to take his MAGA philosophy to the Middle East and “Make Iran Great Again.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed Israel was “very, very close” to destroying Iran’s nuclear and missile capabilities.
