Israel-Iran conflict live updates: Israel detects missiles from Iran, politicians call for immediate retaliation

Iran’s top security body has made bold claims following allegations of a ceasefire breach, sending an ominous warning to Israel.

Welcome to our live coverage of the escalating situation in the Middle East.

Donald Trump has announced Iran and Israel have agreed to a “complete and total ceasefire”.

In a post on Truth Social, the US President said the ceasefire would begin in six hours time, at approximately 0400 GMT (2pm AEST).

“Iran will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 12th Hour, Israel will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 24th Hour, an Official END to THE 12 DAY WAR will be saluted by the World,” he wrote.

It comes after Iran launched what it called its “mighty and victorious” response to US air strikes on its nuclear sites, on Monday evening, local time.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said “Operation Besharat al-Faith” saw missiles fired at the US’ Al Udeid air base in Qatar. It is the US’ largest air base in the region.

The skies across Qatar’s capital Doha – familiar to many Australians who fly through on the way to Europe – were streaked with antimissile interceptors and explosions.

Qatar said it brought down every missile. Both the US and Qatar have said there was no damage to the base and no injuries.

Both the US and Qatar were told beforehand of the incoming attack, apparently in an effort by Tehran to save face by responding but also to give both it and the US an “off ramp” from further conflict.
