Elisabeth Murdoch receives honour from Queen

Media executive Elisabeth Murdoch has been named in the Queen’s Jubilee honours list while an Aussie MasterChef judge also made the grade.

Australian media executive Elisabeth Murdoch has been bestowed with a CBE in the Queen’s Jubilee honours list.

The London-based executive was included in the list released by Her Majesty on Thursday.

A CBE – Commander of the Order of the British Empire – is the highest ranking Order of the British Empire award.

Australian television presenter John Torode, who is a judge on MasterChef in the UK, was also honoured.

Ms Murdoch, 53, was honoured for her services to “diversity in the Arts and to Charity”.

The awards noted that Ms Murdoch, the daughter of media owner Rupert Murdoch, was a member of the Arts Council England.

Ms Murdoch has a long and distinguished career in the media, having worked at Sky in the UK.

She also set up her own independent production company, Shine, which produced programs including MasterChef.

Shine was purchased by News Corporation in 2011, with Ms Murdoch going on to set up another production company, Sister, in 2019.

“Elisabeth Murdoch is an entrepreneur and philanthropist in the creative industries,” the Sister website says.

“Elisabeth is also founder and Chair of Locksmith Animation, founder of Solve, an interactive mobile gaming studio, and a strategic minority shareholder in Youngest Media, 110% Content & beloFX.”

Ms Murdoch also set up the Freelands Foundation in 2015.

The foundation has “the ambition to give everyone in the UK, regardless of background or location, access to art education, to raise their aspirations and empower them to transform their life opportunities.”

Ms Murdoch is also a non-Executive Director of Tribeca Enterprise and was previously “Chairman of the Tate Modern Advisory Council between 2009 and 2016.”
