Wounded crocodile beached on NT shores

Earlier this week stunning footage emerged from Nhulunbuy of a shark making a feast of a dead crocodile beached on the shore of Town Beach.

Now, more images have emerged with reports the croc had laid there for at least 24 hours before becoming shark chum.

Alice Bedwell had filmed the wild scene of one predator making a meal out of another, which this masthead shared on social media, garnering more than one million views on Instagram.

Another Territory resident Jo Lucas has come forward with images and video from at least 24 hours before the croc became shark food.

“These were taken by my partner the evening prior when he went down there, he had seen the girls the next evening taking a video of where the croc was but was too far away to see what was happening,” Ms Lucas said.

In the photos you can see the clear cause of the crocodile’s demise, a large wound almost severing the reptile’s entire back right leg from its body.

Hamish and his wife Jo had been theorising what caused the clean slice to the crocs leg.

Ms Lucas said her husband who works FIFO between Darwin and Nhulunbuy took the footage and wasn’t too sure what had caused the wound, but they had been theorising.

“It looks like a clean slice, a few people I showed suggested maybe a boat propeller but it’s a mystery,” she said.
