A woman screamed “I’m dying, please save me” as she was being mauled by three dogs who were shot and killed by police.

Police were called to a single-storey brick home on Ross St in Dandenong following reports a woman was being attacked by a pack of dogs about 9.50am Thursday.

Officers arrived and fired OC spray but it failed to deter the three dogs.

Those officers then blasted more than a dozen shots into the animals to save the woman from being killed.

CCTV from a nearby home captures at least 16 shots being fired into the dogs.

The woman was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.

Neighbours say they heard a woman and two men screaming for help at the time.

They said her arms and legs were covered in blood.

They said the residents were throwing objects at the dogs in the backyard in attempt to distract them.

“She was screaming so badly, she said ‘I’m dying, please save me’,” one neighbour said.

“I noticed the woman say ‘the dogs are killing me, I’m dying, I’m dying’.

“I heard the noises of the gun when they shot the dogs.

“The dogs are very big, we’ve seen them before and they are totally free outside. We’ve (made) so many complaints.

“They (have) attacked so many times along the street.”

Another nearby resident said they were woken by the gunshots.

“There were gunshots continuously firing,” she said.

“I really feel bad for her.”

Those neighbours said police have been called to the home on at least one occasion in the past.

Detectives remained at the home well into Thursday afternoon.

In a separate attack, an elderly woman was set upon by another pack of dogs in Sunbury in late August.

A day later, the same dogs mauled a young mother who was walking with her baby.

The three dogs were later euthanised.
