A young girl killed in a horror buggy rollover in Victoria’s north east has been remembered by friends as a “beautiful soul”.

Charlee Neven, 13, was at a large family gathering in Tubbut on Saturday night when the vehicle rolled about 11pm near McKillops Rd.

The driver, a 47-year-old man from NSW, and Charlee, died at the scene.

It is believed Charlee was part of the Bairnsdale and District Amateur Basketball Association, playing for the under 17s girls team.

Friends took to social media to remember the teenager as a “gorgeous girl”.

“Rip Charlee you’ll be missed so much, it feels so unreal that you’re gone,” Mia Hood said.

“We all miss you so much, you were such an amazing and smart girl that always made people feel happy to be around you.”

Tubbut is located on the Victoria-NSW border.

“Rest easy I love you so much my beautiful girl,” Aleara Flint said.

“You’ll forever be missed by many.”

“Rest in peace you beautiful soul,” Rianna Whitby said.

“I loved you endlessly and forever you will be missed angel.”

Other messages reading “fly high”, “forever 13” and “gone way too soon” were also posted online by Charlee’s friends.

The Herald Sun has been told a family gathering was being held at the large property when the buggy rolled.

A second 47-year-old man, believed to be Charlee’s father, and a 12-year-old boy were injured.

The boy was transported to Bega hospital and the man was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

It is understood the owners, who reside in another Victorian border town, do not live at the sparse property but had travelled from a nearby area to hold the gathering.

Victoria Police said the investigation surrounding the circumstances of the crash remained ongoing.

Meanwhile, Saturday’s crash comes after a Gippsland man was jailed over a buggy stunt that killed six-year-old Olivia Stevens in 2021.

Damien Gibson was sentenced to at least three years behind bars after the ATV buggy he was driving, with one of his own children also on board, flipped on its roof during a playdate on his Rosedale farm.

Olivia, a student at Gippsland Grammar Primary School, was crushed under the vehicle’s roll bars and died while being flown to the Royal Children’s Hospital.
