All 56 exams impacted by the 2024 VCE exam debacle have been publicly revealed.
Victorian Education Minister Ben Carroll on Wednesday morning released the full list of the exams impacted by the cheat-sheet bungle close to two weeks after it was exposed by the Herald Sun.
Mr Carroll said he had received an assurance from the Victorian Curriculum And Assessment Authority that no other exam had been compromised.
He apologised to every student, parent and carer affected by the bungle, adding he “still had questions that I want answers to”.
“This is why I have ordered a full root and branch review on how did this occur,” he said.
The government has also been under pressure to release the full list of affected questions from each exam and Mr Carroll said “we are working through that process” but that the focus was getting results to students by December 12.
“I give my commitment that we will do everything we can to make sure every student in Victoria in 2024 has a fair assessment.”
It comes as the Allan government teamed up with the Greens and Animal Justice Party to vote down a motion to have the Ombudsman investigate the VCAA exam debacle.
It means the Ombudsman won’t be compelled by the parliament to probe the embarrassing bungle.
The opposition will now write to the Ombudsman to request an investigation.
VCAA interim chief Marcia Devlin will hold twice-weekly webinars with school principals to provide updates.
In a statement, the VCAA said the exam cover-sheet leaks “represents a potential risk of advantage”.
“Whether this became an actual advantage will only be determined when the marking of the examinations is completed,” the statement said.
“The VCAA will not be able to determine the full extent of any actual impact of the inadvertent publication of examination material on the exam cover sheets until the marking process for each examination is complete.
“Part of the analysis to be undertaken may involve comparing student performance across all their examinations.
“The VCAA has committed to transparency and will provide updates as they become available.”
The list of compromised exams includes English, which is sat by 45,000 students and is a compulsory subject for all VCE students.
However, the Herald Sun understands the leaked material did not include questions but instructions.
Mr Carroll on Wednesday stressed the leaded information on the English exam “can be of no assistance”.
“The marking of the exam will continue as usual,” he said, adding all students who sat the exam “have nothing to be concerned about”.
The list also includes four maths subjects, including Maths Methods 1 and 2 and Specialist Maths 1 and 2 despite being the subject of intense scrutiny and external assistance due to errors in recent years.
The list also includes some of the most popular subjects, including psychology (sat by 18,000 students), Business Management (16,000), Legal Studies (10,000), Chemistry (10,000), PE (11,000), Biology (15,000) and Health and Human Development (16,000).
Some of these exams have had extensive leaking of questions that appeared in the final exams almost unchanged, including Business Management and Legal Studies.
