While some dodge the subject of their age, TV favourite Livinia Nixon has been embracing her festival of 50.
Nixon, who became a national star thanks to Hey Hey It’s Saturday, hit the big 5-0 on March 19.
Her TV career started 46 years ago.
“I was 4 when I first appeared on camera. I was the Granny Davis (bread) girl,” Nixon said.
“We had a family friend who was a director. He was doing a shoot and one of the girls who had been cast for the commercial got sick and had to pull out on the day.
“They were looking for a replacement and called my mum and asked if I would be available.
“All I had to do was eat party food and have fun. Of course the ad froze (ended) with me turning back and reaching for more food.”
While completing a university degree Nixon modelled on the side and appeared in a legendary Maltesers ad.
“It was kind of groundbreaking at the time because it had these claymation Maltesers characters talking to me,” she said.
There was also her memorable turn in Peter Andre’s Funky Junky music video in 1993.
The day after she finished her uni degree she started work on Foxtel’s Comedy Channel.
She joined Hey Hey in 1997.
“I remember sitting there looking around at all these icons of TV like Daryl Somers and John Blackman and thinking how lucky I was,” she said.
“One night I was sitting in the make-up chair with Kylie Minogue on one side of me and Lenny Kravitz on the other and thinking ‘what on earth is going on?’.”
Nixon has been the weather presenter for Nine News since 2004.
“A lot of people like to hide how old they are, I am not into that,” she said.
“I have pretty much grown up on TV and so many important moments in my life have been shared with viewers. It is nice to share this with them too.”
