A Lamborghini featuring Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O’s heads on its bonnet and sporting huge KIIS FM branding has sparked fury among parents in Elwood after it was captured on video allegedly speeding through a residential street near schools.
The luxury vehicle did three laps of a circuit including Spray St, Tennyson St (St Kilda St) and Glen Huntly Rd on Wednesday afternoon just after 3pm as part of a radio promotion that had the car “touring” Melbourne.
But anger grew after the Lamborghini was filmed rapidly accelerating along a residential street, just as children were walking home from Elwood Primary School and Elwood College.
Concerned parents immediately took to social media to call out the actions of the unidentified driver and a video of the car roaring down the street was uploaded to social media.
“What a f---ing idiot, what a f---ing idiot,” the individual who filmed one video can be heard saying in the footage.
“There are schoolchildren coming back, oh my god.”
A comment from a shocked local posting on Instagram read: “You absolutely flew down Soray (Spray) St in Elwood today ….it’s 40kms! There are schools nearby, pets, people crossing (on) that street.”
Another comment read: “By ‘touring’, does that include driving over the speed limit through Elwood during the time kids are walking home? Rhetorical question BTW. This behaviour does damage to you and your brand, shame.”
The driver’s behaviour was described as “f---ing diabolical” in another Instagram comment. Police were not involved.
The vehicle was wrapped in KIIS and Kyle & Jackie O livery as part of a Grand Prix social media promotion between the radio station and exotic car hire business Euphoric Rides Luxury Hire.
On Thursday ARN, the parent company of KIIS FM, confirmed the driver of the Lamborghini had been dumped from the radio promotion.
“The KIIS-branded Lamborghini is part of a planned promotional activity, designed to be driven in convoy through the streets of Melbourne with our Black Thunder teams and the Kyle & Jackie O Coach,” ARN said in a statement.
“We engaged Euphoric Cars based on their reputation as a professional car hire business, so it’s disappointing to see this unacceptable behaviour.
“As with all our promotions, safety is our top priority, and we follow strict protocols to ensure the wellbeing of the public and our staff.
“A full risk assessment was conducted before the activity took place, and we were given assurances regarding the driver’s credentials and adherence to road safety standards.
“We do not condone this conduct in any way and are satisfied that the company has acknowledged responsibility and replaced the driver.”
Euphoric Rides said it regretted the rash driving incident and apologised to residents.
“Euphoric Rides take full responsibility for this incident and we deeply regret what occurred,” the company said in a statement.
“The behaviour displayed was completely unacceptable, and we sincerely apologise to the public, KIIS, and everyone involved.
“This incident took place outside of the planned promotional hours and was entirely separate from the activities scheduled by KIIS.
“Safety has always been our top priority, and this was an isolated event that does not reflect our usual standards or values.”
